Sonia is a Registrar in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in the NHS. She currently serves on the Women in Surgery (WinS) Forum committee for the Royal College of Surgeons, England.
She has keen interests in Health Policy (chiefly burns injury policy and management) and Medical Education. To compliment this, she successfully completed a Masters in Health Policy, Planning & Financing.
Her research interests lie in the journey of burns care and scarring. This holistically includes relevant policies, education and preventative measures; to the traumatic injury itself; wound care science and scar management.
As such, her research is heavily complemented by my theoretical and practical knowledge of aesthetics and scars. She is undertaking a Level 7 Diploma in Clinical Aesthetic Injectable Therapies.
She is passionate about leadership, advocacy, mentoring, quality improvement across healthcare, and academia. Her MSc research for her thesis was conducted at the Global Surgery Policy Unit (LSE and the Royal College of Surgeons, England).
With over a decade of leadership experience, she is also the founder and director of ‘Motivating Medics’, an organisation created to teach, coach, mentor and empower young people of lower socioeconomic backgrounds, in order to help widen access into medical school.
