
Milan Makwana
Milan is a paediatric neurosurgery fellow at the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in
Liverpool. Milan completed his doctorate in neuroscience atUCL in 2008,with a research and
publication focus on central and peripheral nerve injury. He then attendedUCL Medical School,followed by specialisttraining in neurosurgery atUniversity Hospital Wales (UHW)inCardiff. During his time at UHW, Milan was Deputy Chair of the Wales Resident Doctors’ Committee, playing a pivotalrole in negotiating a newcontractwith ministers and officials. In 2002, Milan graduated from HLA with a PGCert in Clinical Leadership, Management and Education. Since then, he has continued to play an active part in the HLA community and its development. He is currently a Clinical Lecturer at Medics.Academy and the lead tutorforthe IL-1 programme. Milan is a staunch advocate for all students achieving their full potential, regardless of background or identity. His inclusive approach ensures that each individual can overcome personal, social or institutional barriers in order to succeed. Milan lives with his husband, two adopted children and their dog Billy.
