
Josie Cheetham
Josie is a First 5 GP in Wales, UK, an honorary clinical lecturer and incoming clinical academic fellow at Cardiff University. Prior to medicine, she worked as a researcher within academia and industry. Josie was an HLA scholar between 2024-25, focusing on further elevating her award-winning healthcare worker period equity initiative, the SOS box, which she founded in 2018.
Josie is now a new global cohort director for the HLA, also contributing to the Medics Academy F|docs programme, co-developing a new Care Under Pressure research-informed wellbeing education package. Holding a Masters in Medical Education, she is an established undergraduate examiner and exam question writer, also publishing research exploring one of her passions, equity, diversity and inclusivity within healthcare education. Josie is a longstanding member of the Civility Saves Lives campaign, publishing, speaking nationally and internationally alongside integrating civility into undergraduate medicine curricula.
Josie has held a range of formal regional and national leadership positions within the UK during her 11 years as a doctor with organisations such as within the BMA, FMLM, RSM, GMC, HEE and RCP and is currently the co-lead for communications and events on ASME’s EDI committee. Josie established the inaugural all-Wales biannual leadership study day programme for resident and LED doctors and co-established the inaugural Next Generation GP programme Cymru (a free leadership programme for GP registrars and GPs within five years of full qualification). She has also recently completed a PGCert in Medical Leadership.
