This event is tailored for individuals who applied to the HLA Scholarship Programme but were not successful in securing a place. It is designed to support and guide you in exploring alternative leadership opportunities through the Healthcare Leadership Academy and Medics.Academy.


Whether you’re planning to reapply or seeking new development pathways, this session will help you continue your leadership journey and remain actively engaged with the HLA community.

What You’ll Gain from the Session

Led by Dr Johann Malawana, Founder and Director of Medics.Academy and the HLA, this interactive event will:

  • Introduce alternative leadership pathways including the  including the Postgraduate Programme in Innovative Leadership, Education and Technology (InLET), Medics.Academy Fellowship Programme, Intermediate Level One Programme (IL1 Program), and Artificial Intelligence and Innovative Technologies in Digital Health Programme

  • Explore reapplication strategies and routes into future HLA Scholarship opportunities.

  • Provide space for Q&A and guided personal reflection to help shape your next leadership steps.

Meet Your Workshop Host

Dr Johann Malawana
Director, The Healthcare Leadership Academy | Founder, Medics.Academy

Johann brings over 15 years of leadership experience in healthcare. As the visionary behind Medics.Academy and the HLA, he has been instrumental in developing platforms that nurture emerging healthcare leaders.


Previously Chair of the British Medical Association’s Junior Doctors Committee, Johann has championed junior doctors nationally, negotiating critical reforms during the Modernising Medical Careers (MMC) crisis. He has held senior positions representing students and junior doctors, including on the boards of the General Medical Council and the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board.
