Member of the HLA Senior Management Team (SMT)

Brief work description:
 

A Member of the Senior Management Team (SMT) plays a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the HLA. This leadership role involves contributing to decisions around finances, strategic development, and organisational growth. SMT members oversee the management of HLA’s faculty and scholars, and support the design, delivery, and sustainability of HLA programmes and networks. This is a collaborative position working alongside Cohort Directors, Faculty, Scholars, and other SMT colleagues to ensure the HLA continues to thrive and develop its community.
 

Key Responsibilities:
 
  • Strategic Leadership and Finance:

    • Contribute to organisational strategy and collective decision-making.

    • Input into financial planning and resource allocation.

    • Support sustainability and growth initiatives, including funding and partnerships.

  • Programme and Network Oversight:

    • Provide leadership and oversight to HLA programmes and networks (e.g. Mentorship, HLA Ideas, Women in Healthcare Leadership).

    • Collaborate with programme leads to ensure delivery aligns with the HLA vision.
      Support evaluation and continuous improvement of programmes.

  • Faculty and Scholar Management:

    • Support the recruitment, appraisal, and development of faculty and scholars.

    • Foster a supportive and accountable culture across the HLA community.

    • Ensure scholars and faculty are connected into appropriate networks and opportunities.

  • Representation and Collaboration:

    • Represent the organisation externally at events and conferences.

    • Engage alumni and external partners to broaden HLA’s reach.
       

Requirements:
 
  • Must be a current or past HLA Cohort Director.

  • Attendance at monthly SMT meetings (virtual, evenings/weekends).

  • Attendance at the annual HLA Cohort Directors’ Weekend in Devon.

  • Willingness to attend key events such as the Alumni Dinner, House of Lords, and community/networking sessions.

  • Ability to represent the HLA externally and communicate effectively

  • Responsible for allocated budget areas and supporting faculty/scholars as required.

Recruitment Process:
 

The interview process will involve multiple stages, including meetings with Medics.Academy Human Resources, Senior Managers, and members of the HLA Leadership Team, followed by a final interview with the Managing Director of the HLA.
